Advantage+ Audience

In one lineYou give a hint, Meta chooses who sees it.

When you build an ad set, the first thing Meta asks is who should see the ad, and Advantage+ audience is Meta answering that question for you instead of making you spell it out. You still hand it a starting point, the interests, custom audiences or lookalikes you would have picked anyway, but Meta treats that as a suggestion rather than a fixed rule.

Here is what actually happens. You give Advantage+ audience a hint, and it leans toward that hint at first, showing your ad to the kind of people you pointed it at. Then it is free to go past that list whenever it thinks someone outside your suggestion is likely to convert. You are not drawing a hard boundary around who qualifies, you are telling Meta where to begin looking. Over the last while this has quietly become the default setting when you spin up a new ad set, in place of the old way where you hand-picked a fixed audience and Meta stayed inside it.

This matters because it is the clearest example of Meta taking the targeting decision out of your hands and into its own system. When your tracking is solid and Meta can actually see who buys, this often works in your favor, because it can watch who converts and chase more of them better than a frozen list ever could. You are trading a boundary you control for a system that adjusts on live signal.

The catch is that you are giving up control, and that is not always something you can afford to do. Because your suggestion is only a nudge, Advantage+ audience is the wrong tool the moment you genuinely need to restrict who sees an ad, whether that is a legal reason, a specific exclusion you must honour, or a product that only makes sense for a narrow group. Before you rely on it, find out exactly what it can and cannot hard-limit, and remember that like everything automated in Meta, it only makes smart choices when it is fed good conversion data.

Use it when you want Meta to find buyers, not when you need to keep people out.
