Event Match Quality (EMQ)

In one lineHow well your events match real users.

Event Match Quality (EMQ) is a score from 0 to 10 that rates how reliably the events you send TikTok can be matched to a real TikTok user.

Every time a purchase or add-to-cart fires, TikTok tries to match it to the person who saw your ad using signals like hashed email, hashed phone number, and IP address. The more clean signals you send, the higher your EMQ, and the better TikTok can optimize and credit your conversions.

The score is not cosmetic. Sit below 5 and value-based bidding is off the table; a pixel-only setup tends to stall around 5 to 6.5, while hitting 8 or higher unlocks full optimization. Adding the Events API for server-side tracking usually lifts you 2 to 3 points over a pixel alone, often the difference between a starved campaign and a working one.

A high EMQ helps only if the underlying data is honest. Sending sloppy or partial customer fields can leave you stuck at a low score with no obvious error message, and TikTok quietly gives your conversions less credit, so your ads look worse than they truly are.

Feed it clean data or it feeds you bad decisions.
