A Promoted Post is a regular Reddit post you pay to place in the feed and in communities beyond the one it was posted in.
You start with a post that could live on Reddit on its own, a link, an image, or text, and Reddit pushes it into the feeds and subreddits you target. It carries the same upvote arrows, comment count, and thread as an organic post, so people can reply to it, argue with it, and vote it down. The label reads Promoted, and the ad sits in the auction against everything else bidding for that placement.
Say you run a project-management tool. You write a plain post titled how our team stopped losing tasks in chat, point it at r/productivity and a lookalike audience, and set a daily budget. It shows in the feed looking like any other post; the only difference is you chose who sees it and you pay per click or per thousand impressions.
A Promoted Post keeps its comment section, and you own whatever lands there. If the top comment calls your product overpriced and collects 200 upvotes, that is the first thing every new viewer reads. You either moderate and reply in the thread or you switch comments off at the ad level, but leaving them unwatched is the expensive option.
The feed does not care that you paid. Earn the read.
