The Sales objective is the campaign setting that tells Meta to spend your budget finding people who are likely to buy, and to optimize for purchases and the smaller actions that lead up to them.
When you set up a campaign in Ads Manager, the first choice you make is the objective, and Sales is the one you pick when the point of the campaign is revenue. Once you choose it, Meta stops trying to win you cheap clicks or reach and starts trying to win you buyers. It does that by reading the signals coming off your own tracking, the Meta pixel sitting on your site and the events you send through the Conversions API, so it can see who actually bought and then go looking for more people who behave like them. It is one of the six objectives Meta currently offers, and for online stores and direct-response businesses it is the one you will live in.
This matters because it is the only objective that points the whole system at the outcome that pays you. Every other objective optimizes for something one step removed from money, a click or a view or a lead, and you are left hoping that traffic converts. With Sales, you are asking Meta to chase the purchase itself, which is why most of your performance budget belongs here when the goal is to sell.
The catch is that the Sales objective is only ever as good as the data you feed it. If your pixel is not firing the purchase event properly, or you have optimized for the wrong event like add to cart instead of purchase, Meta learns the wrong lesson and goes and finds you more people who add to cart and never check out. Get the tracking right first, confirm the purchase event is firing in your events setup, and only then let the objective do its job. It also needs enough real purchase data to learn from, so a very low-volume account can genuinely struggle here until the sales start coming through.
Fix your tracking, optimize for the actual purchase, and Sales becomes the objective that earns.
