The Existing Customer Budget Cap was a control in Advantage+ Shopping campaigns that limited the share of your budget Meta could spend re-showing ads to people who had already bought from you.

You run an automated shopping campaign because you want Meta to go find buyers for you. The problem is that its system often takes the easy win, which is serving your ad again to people already on your customer list, because those people convert cheaply and make the campaign's numbers look flattering. That is not growth, that is paying to reach folks who might have come back on their own. The Existing Customer Budget Cap was your lever against exactly this. You uploaded a customer list, set a percentage, say twenty percent as an illustrative figure, and Meta was only allowed to spend that slice on existing customers. The rest had to chase new ones.

Here is the part you need to know in 2026. Meta retired this cap. Around early 2025 the company pulled the setting out of Advantage+ Shopping campaigns and moved everyone toward its newer approach, where you see new versus existing customer results in reporting and steer growth through audience and customer lifecycle settings rather than one hard percentage you type in.

The honest catch is that the job the cap did has not gone away, only the button has. You still need to tell Meta who your existing customers are with a good, current customer list, because none of the new-versus-existing reporting or targeting means anything if that list is stale or missing. Decide on purpose whether you are paying for fresh customers or are fine re-engaging the ones you have, then use the exclusions and audience segments that are still there to enforce that choice yourself.

The cap is gone, but the discipline it forced on you is still the whole game.
