Advantage Campaign Budget

In one lineMeta splits one budget across ad sets instead of you.

Advantage campaign budget is when you set one budget at the campaign level and let Meta split it across the ad sets underneath, sending more of it to whichever ad set is winning at that moment.

You have got three or four ad sets sitting under one campaign, and normally you would decide how much each one gets. With Advantage campaign budget you stop doing that. You put a single number on the campaign, so your daily budget goes there instead of on each ad set, and Meta moves the money around for you through the day. If one ad set is bringing in cheap results and another is dragging, Meta quietly shifts spend toward the one that is working, without you touching a thing. This is the same feature you used to know as CBO, Campaign Budget Optimization, and plenty of people still call it CBO out of habit, so do not get thrown when you hear both names for the one thing.

It matters because the machine reacts faster than you do. You are not sitting in Ads Manager at 2am catching the ad set that suddenly took off, but Meta is, and it will feed the winner while you sleep. When you already know a set of ads works and you just want to pour more money behind it, handing that decision over usually gets the spend to the right place quicker than you moving numbers by hand.

The catch is that once Meta owns the split, it can starve an ad set you actually wanted to keep alive. It will happily put almost the whole budget into one or two ad sets and leave the rest with next to nothing, which is fine when you are scaling but a real problem when you are testing, because a test only tells you something if every ad set gets a fair, guaranteed amount of spend. When that is what you need, set the budget yourself on each ad set instead, the ad set budget way, sometimes called ABO, so nothing gets choked before it has had a chance.

Use Advantage campaign budget to scale a proven winner, use ad set budgets to protect a test.
